Why NUCLEUS?
In physics, a NUCLEUS is the positively charged dense region at the centre of an atom, composed of protons and neutrons, about which electrons orbit. Well in Newark, the Central Ward is the NUCLEUS. It is the center of the city, dense resources, the most valuable of which are its citizens. Connected to this NUCLEUS, are the other wards, each important and unique in their own way. The NUCLEUS is core to an organism’s growth and thus it needs to be strong. It is the mission of this organization to strengthen Newark’s core, and thus improve the whole of the city for generations to come.
Citizens. Community. Connections. Capital.
Sample projects include:
- Capital Connection – Going Beyond a Bake Sale

- Seasoned Citizen Programs – Newark Granny and Grandpa Projects
- Cultural diversity projects – Food, Dance, Art, and Music of Newark
The educational, financial, and structural resource gaps between the haves and have-nots in Newark are growing, impeding the civic organizations and non-profit sector’s ability to achieve their missions. To enable these groups to thrive and for the positivity of happenings in Newark to be properly promoted, that gap must be narrowed.
This site, developed by Stephanie Noble who created the acronym NUCLEUS and composed the business plan and accompanying materials, describes the need for and design of a new nonprofit in Newark, NJ. NUCLEUS. The services to be offered by NUCLEUS were developed in response to a series of focus groups, citizen requests, and keen observation of service deficiencies in Newark. The need for honest, reliable, and local advice and assistance was clear, as was the need for a solution to the sector’s inability to hire qualified staff and consultants due to high commanding salaries.
NUCLEUS will be a membership-based organization and will be able to offer steep discounts on its services due to the generous contributions of foundations, individuals and the corporate community.
